LOCKPORT — Lake Effect Artisan Ice Cream bested a dozen other ice cream parlors across Western New York en route to winning the All WNY Award for Best Ice Cream Parlor.

Lake Effect was up against Anderson’s Frozen Custard, Antoinette’s, Nick Charlap’s Ice Cream, Inc., De Dee’s Dairy Inc., Hanna’s Frosty Treats, Hedonist Artisan Ice Cream, Jerk’s Soda Fountain & Ice Cream, Kone King, Little Red Caboose LLC, Mississippi Mudds, Pittsford Farms Dairy & Bakery and Sunset Twisters in what has been — thus far — the most popular category of the new awards, if judged by votes cast.

Located near the Flight of Five on Canal Street in Lockport, Lake Effect features locally-sourced unique flavors including Salty Caramel, Paula’s Glazed Donut and Revolution Coffee. Owned by Lockport High School teachers Jason Wulf and Erik Bernardi, the store is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

For those who don’t wish to trek to Lockport, Lake Effect ice creams are also sold in nearly three dozen retail locations throughout Western New York.

Nominations in the latest All WNY Award category — Best Beer Selection — will begin this afternoon and run through Aug. 7.
