Dalton Pompey, Ryan Goins and Darrell Ceciliani each had a pair of hits to power the Buffalo Bisons, as the Herd won their third straight game over the Syracuse Chiefs by a score of 6-5 at Coca-Cola Field Sunday afternoon.

Down 4-0 early, Pompey led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored on the next at-bat as Goins drove a liner into the right-center field gap for a double. Ceciliani then followed up with a blast onto Bully Hill beyond the right-field wall.

“That was obviously big right there, facing their best pitching prospect,” said manager Gary Allenson.

“We haven’t done that a lot.”

The Herd took the lead in the third as Ceciliani singled in front of a Chris Colabello walk, setting up Domonic Brown with an RBI opportunity.

Buffalo’s right fielder shot a low liner into right which made its way under the glove of Caleb Ramsey, who scampered back to the ball and fired it wildly to the infield. The two-error play by Ramsey allowed Brown to reach third while both baserunners scored easily for the 5-4 lead.

The Chiefs came right back with a tying run in the next inning as Jason Martinson started the frame with a single to left, then came home two batters later on a sac fly.

But again it was the top of Buffalo’s order that put the Herd ahead in the seventh.

Pompey ripped a one-out liner into the right field corner for a double and again was cashed in by Goins, who slapped a single up the middle for his fifth RBI while rehabbing with the Herd.

After a grand slam plated four of the first five batters he faced, Chris Leroux settled in to allow just one more hit the rest of the way, finishing with six innings under his belt while striking out a pair of Chiefs along the way.

Bo Schultz earned the win with a strikeout in a 1-2-3 seventh.

Danny Barnes pitched to the same result in the eighth, setting up Ryan Tepera with the opportunity to pick up his 15th save.

Things got a little uncomfortable for Buffalo’s closer as Syracuse loaded the bases with just one out. Tepera then induced a pop up and a ground out to end the game.

“It’s really nice going to those three guys out there,” added Allenson afterwards.

The Bisons’ staff surrendered just one run over 13.2 innings of relief in the four-game set with the Chiefs.
