Police in Buffalo an Amherst are both reminding residents again to lock their cars — even in their own driveways.

Buffalo police are investigating a car break in that occurred in the first block of Middlesex Road near Meadow Drive around 11 p.m. Monday. Northwest District officers say a suspect or suspect entered an unlocked vehicle and made off with different electronic items.

Amherst police, meanwhile, say there were numerous reports of larcenies from vehicles in the Snyder area (surrounding Amherst High School). The unknown suspects entered unlocked vehicles in the area and stole items. They’re asking for anyone with information regarding these thefts to call the Detective Bureau at 716-689-1340.

Similar break-ins were recently reported in Grand Island and Bergholz.

Police agencies offer the following tips:

  • Do not leave vehicles unattended with the doors unlocked, even in your garage or driveway
  • Remove all valuables from the car, such as cell phones, GPS units, computers, purses and money
  • Turn on your home’s exterior lights or install motion sensors to illuminate vehicles parked in the driveway
  • If you must park in the street, try to park under a street light.
