SHERMAN — A 32-year old Bronx man and a 33-year-old Bronx woman were charged with several crimes — including endangering the welfare of a child — following a high speed chase in I-86.
According to New York State Police, Troopers pulled over a vehicle driven by Robert Lajara on I-86 on Sunday. As Troopers approached, he was seen changing seats with his passenger, Gloria Rodriguez.
During questioning, Rodriguez and Lajara were said to be “confrontational” before Lajara fled the scene then switched seats again with Rodriguez, who reached speeds of 110 mph while fleeing police.
When Troopers caught up with the vehicle, the pair were arrested without further incident. They were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child due to three juvenile passengers in the vehicle under the age of 16. Additionally, Lajara was charged with resisting arrest and Rodriguez was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
Child Protective Services was contacted and placed the the three kids into protective custody. Rodriguez and Lajara were transported to SP Jamestown, processed, and arraigned in the Town of Sherman Court before being remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail.
