NORTH TONAWANDA — The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was rescued from the Niagara River Sunday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office says that Russell Nye, 85, is from the Town of Lockport. Nye had fallen from his boat on the west side on Tonawanda Island around 2:08 p.m. He was rescued by City of Tonawanda Police Marine unit and taken to DeGraff Hospital.

He has since been transported to Buffalo General Hospital and is listed in Critical condition.

The Investigation is continuing by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
