BUFFALO — Several security changes are being implemented at Canalside following reports of shots fired during the July 4 fireworks there and other security concerns.

Major changes include a BPD substation being maintained at the venue and increased police presence during Canalside events such as the free Thursday Concert Series. There will also be increased lighting and increased security screening with new rules on what may or may not be taken into the venue during special events.

Prohibited items include weapons of any kind, illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia, fireworks, backpacks, glass containers, outside food or beverages, professional video and photo cameras, selfie sticks, tripods, monopods, recording devices, laser pointers, air horns, non-service animals, bicycles, and any other items deemed by security to be inappropriate or dangerous.

As has been the case for all concerts and large events this season, all patrons are subject to security screening at the entry gates. All metal items will have to go through the security inspection table including cell phones and other electronic devices, as well as any purses or other small bags.

There are also new protocols being instituted for alcohol consumption at Canalside events with limits on the number of drinks per person and intoxicated people being removed from the venue.
