Harold Hickman of Newfane, husband of the late Jaqueline Hickman entered into rest on Friday July 8, 2016 in Buffalo, NY. He was born on April 3, 1928 in Columbia Tennessee. The son of the late Joseph and Imogene Hickman (Smith). Harold and Jacqueline were married on June 16, 1958.

The youngest of six, Harold was predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Felix and Leonard sisters Imogene and Alice

Survived by Deborah Wiese (Duncan) of Newfane, Michael Duncan of Newfane, Joseph Hickman (Sharron) of Pendleton and Timothy Hickman of Van Wert, Ohio

4 grandchildren, 21 nieces and nephews

Harold served in the Navy from September 21, 1945 receiving an honorable discharge October 27, 1954. Harold received training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego California. Harold achieved rank of Boatswain’s Mate third class and was stationed aboard the USS Titania (AK-13) USS Baltimore (CA-13) and the USS Columbus (CA-74)

Harold also served aboard LST Class landing craft supporting General MacArthur’s mission near the Korean Peninsula Harold worked for International Paper Company for 20 years until the mill closed in 1974. He worked several jobs supporting his family before taking a position as machinist at Sherwood Sel Pac in Lockport for 15 years retiring in 1995

Harold grew up in the deep south and loved to share stories about the depression, the Grand Ole Opry and the simple ways he, his brothers and friends would entertain themselves in rural America. After his discharge from the service, Harold lived in the City of Tonawanda where he helped coach Little League baseball. Harold loved to tinker and in 1971 purchased a nearly derelict house and 10 acres of property in Newfane. Harold and his wife Jackie restored the house to make a beautiful family home complete with a charming bridge. Harold enjoyed his gentlemen farm where he raised cows and hogs, camping, blue grass and traditional country music. Harold attended every event his children and grandchildren participated in and was an energetic fan of slow pitch softball in Krull Park.
