Superman has kryptonite. The Bisons have the RailRiders.

Buffalo has won every one of its games since June 20th against opponents other than Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but for the fifth time in as many games against the IL’s best, the Herd fell. This time, by a score of 10-0 at PNC Field on Wednesday.

Making his fifth career start at the Triple-A level, John Anderson appeared overmatched in his second start against the league’s top scoring team. The 27-year-old gave up a run in the first inning and again in the second before the Riders plated five more to chase the lefty with only one out in the third inning.

Anderson was in trouble from the get-go but managed to keep it a two-run contest by stranding five runners over the first two frames. However, back-to-back blasts from Tyler Austin and Cesar Puello to start the third inning began to blow the game open.

Jake Cave was then hit by a pitch and Jonathan Diaz was issued a one-out free pass before Ben Gamel chopped a single through the right side of the infield to make it 5-0. The next batter, Donovan Solano, banged a double to the wall to bring home both runners, forcing Gary Allenson to go to his relief staff.

Buffalo’s bullpen went to work the rest of the way and were charged with three runs on eight hits.

Bobby Korecky matched his longest outing of the year, hurling 3.2 innings of two-run ball. Chad Girodo worked a scoreless seventh to drop his ERA to 1.59 this season. The Riders reached their final tally on three consecutive two-out singles as Dustin Antolin was tagged with the 10th run.

Coming out of the opposing dugout to make his fourth start with the RailRiders was Dietrich Enns. The 19th round pick of the Yankees in 2012 has quietly been making a name for himself as a prospect while on his recent stint with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Enns entered Wednesday’s action with a 0.96 ERA and lowered it to 0.70, shutting out the Bisons with five strikeouts across seven innings of two-hit work. The 25-year-old faced one over the minimum through five and a third, before Domonic Brown broke the no-hit bid with a line-drive single.

The Herd has been outscored 28-5 by the RailRiders over their last five meetings.
