ROCHESTER — An 85-year-old Canaseraga man who was injured Thursday when his 2008 Jeep Compass was struck by a train has succumbed to his injuries.

Frank N. Shirmer died Friday in Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was transferred after originally being taken to Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville for treatment.

According to the original police report, Schirmer’s southbound 2008 Jeep Compass traveled through the crossing barriers to the train tracks on Route 15B in Burns and was struck by the approaching Norfolk Southern train, throwing the Jeep from the road.

Calling hours are 1-4 p.m. Monday at Chamberlin – Baird Funeral Home, 73 Main St., Dansville. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
