BUFFALO — After clearing out Canalside this morning due to a “suspicious package found inside a portable john,” Buffalo Police and the Erie County Bomb Squad have given the all-clear; Canalside will re-open at 2 p.m.
Police have not yet said what the item was that the bomb squad removed from the porta-potty, but had declared around 12:30 p.m. that it “did not appear to be explosive in nature.”
Police were alerted to the item around 9:30 a.m. when a worker found it in the john. After clearing the area and closing surrounding streets, the Erie County Bomb Squad secured it.
