BUFFALO — A vigil in honor of the victims of Sunday morning’s mass shooting at an Orlando nightclub will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Niagara Square.

The vigil — organized by the Pride Center of Western New York, Stonewall Democrats of Western New York, OUTspoken for Equality, Western New York Anti-Violence Project, Spectrum Transgender Group of Western New York, Open Buffalo, and Loop Magazine — is open to all, organizers say.

According to a Facebook event page created for the vigil, it will feature remarks from Mayor Byron Brown; Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul; US Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr.; NYS Senator Tim Kennedy; Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz; Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr.; Professor Faizan Haq, WNY Muslims – Founder; Paul McQuillen, Upstate NY Against Gun Violence; Ari Moore, Spectrum Transgender Group Founding Memeber and Patti Jones, Spectrum Transgender Group – Founding Member and Pride Center of WNY – Board Chair; Justo Gonzalez, Pilgrim St. Luke’s United Church of Christ; Ellen Brauza and Bishop R. William Franklin, Episcopal Church of WNY; Bryan Ball, Stonewall Democrats of WNY – President; and Kitty Lambert-Rudd, OUTspoken for Equality. Prayers will be offered by Carol Speser and Nathan Phillips-Frey. Songs will be offered by Kerrykate Abel and Buffalo Gay Men’s Chorus. Organizers suggest that those looking to donate do so through an official GoFundMe set up for the victims of the shooting. That campaign has already raised $2.3 million.
