WETHERSFIELD — A 39-year-old registered sex offender was charged Tuesday with a violation of the sex offender registry by New York State Police.

According to NYPS, Eric E. Hartman of Gainesville is a Level 2 sex offender arrested for Registry Violation Level 2 sex offender, subject to specific conditions, including that he inform the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services of his Internet use via cell phones and other devices.

Police say that on April 30, Hartman used the internet to contact a 16-year-old male in the Village of Perry in Wyoming County, where he then engaged in a criminal sexual act by the youth. He had already been charged with that crime. However, his alleged failure to notify DCJS of his Internet use within 10 days resulted in the additional charge.

Hartman was arraigned in the Village of Perry Court who remanded him to Wyoming County Jail on no bail. He is to return to court in August.
