TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A 28-year-old Lockport man stands accused of running a meth lab following a Friday morning raid at his Rapids Road home.

According to Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour, the Niagara County Drug Task Force along with the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant at 6773 Rapids Road Lot 52 around 8:30 a.m., where they believed methamphetamine was being manufactured and sold.

Arrested at the residence was Kevin L. Mitchell, charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Mitchell was arraigned by Town of Lockport Justice Tilney and remanded to the jail with no bail.

Voutour said the arrest was based on a year-long investigation into methamphetamine manufacturing by Mitchell at the Rapids Road address. The New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team processed the scene due to the volatile nature of the byproducts used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.  The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be pending.
