BUFFALO — A 28-year-old Cheektowaga man was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years-to-life in prison following a conviction in May on charges of second-degree murder.

According to Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr., Deshawn Harris of 26 Preston Road in Cheektowaga, fatally shot 28-year-old Denell Baker of Buffalo on Dec. 28, 2014. After the incident, which happened on E. North and Jefferson,

Baker’s body was dumped on Peach Street by 27-year-old Jordan Hicks of Buffalo. Hicks was later found in possession of the murder weapon during an unrelated traffic stop.

Hicks pleaded guilty to first-degree hindering prosecution and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He faced a maximum prison sentence of up to 22 years but was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in prison and five years post-release supervision.
