BUFFALO — Founding Fathers Pub, named one of the best bars in the nation Thursday, drew some unwanted attention just hours after the honor was announced. The bar was visited by Buffalo Police overnight with police reportedly searching for underage drinkers at the bar.

The ID check came mere hours after the Edward Street bar was named as one of the 18 best bars in the nation by Esquire Magazine’s David Wondrich, calling it “the only dive bar in America obsessively devoted to presidential history — and it’s got great drinks, too. Occupying an 1870s brick livery stable in a handsome old-house part of town, it’s draped in flags, paneled in plaques and prints, and strewn with presidential kickshaws. Plus, it offers a deep bench of local brews.”

It’s presently unknown if any citations were issued on Thursday.

Founding Fathers was joined on the list of best bars by two other Western New York establishments; Rochester’s Good Luck and Swan Market both made the cut as well, despite the fact that neither establishment would be considered a bar by many.
