NORTH TONAWANDA — The Niagara County Independence Party will back the candidacy of acting City Attorney Katherine D. Alexander in the Lumber City, Party Chairwoman Susan Agnello Eberwein announced Wednesday in a statement to the media.

“Katherine Alexander has a track record of positive results for city residents,” Eberwein said. “She also has a depth and breadth of experience that is unparalleled at this level of government, and has shown the ability to make independent, non-political decisions. She will continue to be an asset as City Attorney.”

Eberwein noted that Alexander’s promise to make her office more accessible to the city’s working taxpayers, as well as her success at negotiating maintenance agreements with banks holding homes in foreclosure that headed off neighborhoods’ concerns about blight, represented “the kind of community-oriented leadership and issues management the Independence Party looks for in elected government leaders. She has a solid track record.”

Eberwein also said Alexander brings a resume heavy on experience to the job.

“Katherine Alexander has a great amount of municipal law experience through her work with the County Attorney’s Office and as Assistant City Attorney for North Tonawanda,” Eberwein said. “The Independence Party stands by her ability to protect the interests of the residents of North Tonawanda, which has been shown through her commitment to securing North Tonawanda more protection, while spending time listening to residents about what they expect from her office. We are proud to endorse Katherine Alexander for City Attorney.”
