Residents of Lockport’s east end are being told to shelter in place and traffic is being diverted away from Route 31 while local law enforcement search for a gunman believed to have fired two shots with a long gun at the city’s hospital.

A suspect, described as 6-foot tall with blonde hair had a pair of long rifles at Eastern Niagara Hospital’s emergency room, which he is said to have robbed of prescription medication. Two shots were fired. 
Police put out a “reverse 911” call to residents living the vicinity telling them to “shelter in place” while they look for the man. Police also issued the following: 

Per City of Lockport police residents surrounding Eastern Niagara Hospital Lockport site including East Avenue Beverly Avenue East Union Street Grove Avenue Woodlawn Avenue Irving Street Livingston Place Schaffer Street Lakeview Parkway Granger Place Hildreth Street and Rogers Avenue shelter in place immediately If you see anything suspicious call nine one one immediately

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol are assisting in the manhunt.
