Prices on unleaded gasoline in Buffalo and Rochester climbed another three cents in the past week, according to AAA Western and Central New York.
The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Buffalo is $2.26, while Rochester’s average price is $2.25. The national price for a gallon of unleaded gas went up three cents from last week to $2.14 per gallon. One year ago, the national average was $2.52. Today, the New York State average is $2.30, up three cents from last week.
Prices may move higher during the second quarter of the year in select regional markets due to intermittent supply challenges and increased demand for gasoline. The relatively lower price for gasoline is also reportedly prompting more drivers to take to the roads, and gasoline consumption is approaching levels typical for the summer months. This increase in driving may put pressure on local gasoline markets and cause prices to move higher if demand outpaces the available supply of gasoline. However, consumers remain poised to benefit from substantial comparative savings as we enter the busy summer driving season, and it is likely that most drivers will pay the cheapest summertime prices in 12 years.
