BUFFALO — Buffalo Sabres forward Cody McCormick is retiring from the NHL after of a blood clot was found in his left leg, the team announced today.

McCormick, who will turn 33 next week, has not played since Jan. 10, 2015, spending the past season on injured reserve after failing his pre-training camp physical.

He’s played in the league for 11 years — six of them for Buffalo. He has one year left on his contract.

Used mostly in a checking role, McCormick has 21 goals and 65 points in 405 career games.
