LONG ISLAND — Brian Gionta had a regulation goal and another in overtime to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 victory Saturday night over the New York Islanders at Barclays Center.

It was the Islanders’ Scott Mayfield with the first goal of the night, 2:03 into the second period. Casey Cizikas and Steve Bernier assisted. Then at 5:10, Matt Moulson tied it for the Sabres, assisted by Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart. Evan Rodrigues scored his first goal of the season for Buffalo at 17:57, assisted by Ryan O’Reilly and Nicolas Deslauriers.

In the third period, Alan Quine tied it for New York with a short-handed goal at 2:07. Bracken Kearns assisted. Gionta’s first goal of the game came at 5:57, assisted by Hudson Fasching and Josh Gorges. John Tavares tied it again for the Islanders at 13:34, assisted by Calvin de Haan.

In the overtime period, Gionta’s goal at 2:46 was assisted by Mark Pysyk and Rodrigues.

The win gives Buffalo a 35-36-11 record on the 2015-2016 season.
