Augustus C. “Gus” Freeney, 72, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at Niagara Hospice House. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Gus was the beloved son of the late Ceaser and Norvell (Bradley) Freeney.
Gus graduated from Trott Vocational High School. In 1999, he married the love of his life, Jannie (nee Gulley) Grant-Freeney, at the former Winter Garden in Niagara Falls. Together they shared countless adventures, traveling extensively and cherishing every moment side by side.
Gus worked for many years at Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY, until his retirement. Never one to sit idle, he stayed active as a tractor-trailer driver for several years until his illness. A devoted Jehovah’s Witness, Gus dedicated himself to witnessing work and lived his faith with sincerity and commitment. He took special pride in pioneering on behalf of Jannie during her time of illness.
Beyond his spiritual devotion, Gus had a lifelong passion for cars and street racing. He especially treasured his Grand Prix, which reflected his love of speed, craftsmanship, and pride in the things he enjoyed most.
Along with his wife, Jannie, Gus is survived by their six children, Debra Grant, George Curtis Grant, George Raymond Grant, Desmond D. Grant, Valorie J. Smith, and Anthony D. Grant; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and sisters. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson, Gregory Vincent.
In accordance with Gus’ wishes, no services will be held at this time. Arrangements by M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
