Martha Gazy, 99, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Niagara Hospice House, just four days before celebrating her 100th birthday. Born in Hastings, PA, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Victoria Bachleda.
Martha was raised in Hastings, PA. She moved to Niagara Falls in 1945 where she married the love of her life, William J. Gazy on December 1, 1945 at the former Our Lady of Lebanon Church. Mr. Gazy sadly predeceased her on June 6, 1993.
Upon settling in Niagara Falls, Martha worked at the International Paper Company. She later retried as the head housekeeper of Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel. Martha was an avid reader and seamstress. She was also a jack of all trades and enjoyed tending to her garden. Above all, she centered her life around her beloved family who will miss her immensely.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Timothy) Montgomery and Janis (Donald) Dutko; her grandchildren, James Montgomery, Brian (Ann) Montgomery and John (Colleen) Dutko; her great-grandchildren, Elle, Emery and Olive Montgomery, and Catherine and Leah Dutko; one brother-in-law, Albert Gazy, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, John Bachleda, Helen (late Peter) Shevock, Frank (late Gloria) Bachleda, Rose (late William) Harvie, Andrew (late Theresa) Bachleda, Walter (late Alice) Bachleda and Cecilia (late Gerald) Yahner.
Martha’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18 at 11:00 AM in St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
