Clara M. Ligammare, 100, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on January 29, 2023 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY.  Born in Dubois, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Gaetana ‘Ida’ (Benfante) Nero.

Clara came to the area with her family as a child.  She attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational in 1939.  On September 11, 1944, she married Lawrence A. Ligammare at Our Lady of Lebanon Church.  Mr. Ligammare predeceased her on February 7, 2001.  During World War II, Clara worked at Carborundum Corporation.  In the late 1940’s, she was employed at Walkers Laundry.  Clara was also employed as a Math Aide with the Niagara Falls Board of Education for 18 years until her retirement in 1981. 

Clara was a Charter Member of the Power City Lodge.    A devout Catholic, she attended mass daily, and was an active member of Our Lady of Lebanon Church, where she also sang in the choir and served as a Eucharistic Minister.  Clara was also a weekly volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Clothing store, as well a member as the Senior Groups of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Our Lady of the Rosary, and the John Duke Center.  An active member of the YMCA since 1980, Clara and her husband received the Healthy and Family Fitness award in 1997.  Clara enjoyed walking, bowling, gardening, traveling, and watching daily soap operas.

Clara’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence for the care and compassion shown to her during her time there.

Clara is survived by her children, Larry A. (late George Lookadoo) Ligammare, Dennis C. (Suzanne) Ligammare, and Gail M. (Peter) Dixon; her 5 grandsons, Steven, Andrew and Brian Ligammare, Brandon and Matthew Dixon; 6 great-grandchildren, her special angel, Karen Ann Salciccioli, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved dearly.  In addition to her husband of 56 years, she was predeceased by her siblings, Anthony (late Eleanor) Nero, Mary (late Carmen) Ozzimo, and Sandi (late Terri) Nero.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3 from 9 – 10 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 2437 Niagara Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303, where Clara’s Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 AM.  Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.  In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the John Duke Center.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
