Edison, N.J.—On Monday, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced its weekly awards for women’s basketball. Niagara sophomore Aaliyah Parker has been named MAAC Player of the Week following a 2-0 week for the Purple Eagles.

Parker opened the week by scoring 13 points in a 82-70 win over crosstown rival Canisius at the Gallagher Center. Along with the 13 points she pulled down six rebounds while recording two blocks and a steal.

On Saturday, the Purple Eagles faced Mount St. Mary’s in their first ever MAAC matchup. Parker tallied her fifth double double of the season as she had 17 points and pulled down a new career high 18 rebounds. She is the first Purple Eagle to grab 15 plus rebounds since the 2019-20 season. She is also just the eighth Purple Eagle in program history to pull down 18 or more in a game. Niagara last had a player record 18 or more rebounds in the 2015-16 season when Sam Lapszynski pulled down 19 against Quinnipiac.

On the week, she averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds while racking up six steals and two blocks. Currently she is third in the MAAC in scoring as she is averaging 16.6 points per game. She leads the MAAC in steals with 3.9 steals per game and is second in the nation in steals per game.

The Purple Eagles are back in action this week as they host the Iona Gaels at the Gallagher Center on Thursday at 6 PM.Stay connected with Niagara Women’s Basketball on Twitter and Instagram. Follow Niagara Athletics all year long on TwitterInstagramFacebook andpurpleeagles.com
