Canisius freshman setter Ella Bourque was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Women’s Volleyball All-ECAC Second Team, it was announced on Friday.

The Yorkville, Ill., native is the first Golden Griffins player to be named an ECAC First-or-Second Team honoree since current assistant coach Sofia Lopez Acosta garnered ECAC First-Team accolades during the 2018 season.

“It’s great for Ella to continue to be recognized with more honors for her great performance this year,” head coach Tom Hanna said. “It is certainly exciting for her and our program to be recognized on a more regional level!”

The MAAC Rookie of the Year, All-MAAC Second Team and MAAC All-Rookie Team member had a rookie season to remember, garnering 1,001 assists during the regular season to become the first freshman in program history to surpass the 1,000-assist plateau during her rookie campaign. A nine-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree, Bourque produced nine matches of 40 or more assists and averaged a league-best 9.91 assists per set, while appearing in all 101 sets for the Griffs during the regular season.

Bourque joins Fairfield’s KJ Johnson, Iona’s Hope Matschner and Marist’s Sasha van der Merwe as the only players from the MAAC to earn ECAC honors this season.
