Ohio State pitchers Allison Smith and Kennedy Kay kept Canisius from scoring in the Buckeyes’ 5-0 win before Diamond Williams hit a two-run home run in the fifth to help lift Coastal Carolina to a 5-2 victory in collegiate softball action on the second day of the Beach Chicken Brawl in Conway, S.C.

Game 1 Recap
Hannah Church opened the scoring for Ohio State, singling to center in the second to plate Kami Kortokrax in the second.

The Buckeyes added to its lead in the fourth before putting up three more runs in the fifth.

Sending eight batters to the plate in the frame, Ohio State collected hits in the first five at-bats thanks to a double and four straight singles, with the third hit putting the Buckeyes up three.

The final single, off the bat of Kortokrax with the bases loaded, scored two more insurance markers, which was all Ohio State would need in the win.

Juniors Christie McGee-Ross and Megan Giese both recorded two hits apiece in the loss for Canisius with Giese tossing the complete game in the setback.

Game 2 Recap
Giese helped Canisius jump out to the early lead with her first hit of the game, driving in sophomore Saige Alfaro with an RBI double.

The Griffs lead was short lived as Coastal Carolina plated a pair in the bottom of the third.

Jay Wrightsman and Williams led off the frame by reaching base from a throwing error and infield single, respectively.

The pair then pulled off a double steal and each advanced a base due to a wild throw, allowing Wrightsman to score.

Moments later, Williams scored herself on a sacrifice fly from Riley Zana.

Williams scored her second run of the contest in the fifth with a two-run blast, two of the three runs the Chanticleers posted in the frame.

The Griffs’ offense looked to mount a comeback as Giese led off the top of the seventh with a home run down the left field line, cutting the Coastal lead to 5-3, but Canisius was unable to plate another run.

Sophomore Toria Kover took the loss for the Griffs, allowing two earned runs in 4.1 innings before being relieved by graduate Alexis Churchill, who tossed 1.2 scoreless frames.
