Robert ‘Bob’ E. Sembert, 85, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on December 7, 2021 at Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Samuel ‘Sam’ and Genevieve ‘Janice’ (Wozniewski) Sembert.

Bob attended Nevada Avenue School, Stella Niagara and later earned his Associate’s Degree from the University at Buffalo.  He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1958.  During his time in the Coast Guard, he served on the US Coast Guard Cutter SPAR which was the first ship to circumnavigate North America crossing through the Northwest Passage.  On May 4, 1963, he married Carol S. (Oliver) Sembert at St. Leo’s Church in Niagara Falls.   

Bob was employed with C.J. Tower/McGraw Hill as an Import Analyst in Lewiston, NY and retired in the late 1990’s.  He also served as a Sergeant on the Town of Lewiston Police Department.  He was also the owner of Sembert Pallet & Lumber in Model City, NY, and also drove the Trolley for the New York State Parks Department up to and through this past summer.  In addition, he was a member of the Active Hose and the Upper Mountain Volunteer Fire Companies.  Bob enjoyed working in his yard, bowling on Fridays, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Bob is survived by his children, Robert J. Sembert, Suzanne (Morgan) Hedemann, Christopher J. (Kimberly) Sembert, and Michael E. (Valerie) Sembert; his grandchildren, 1 Lt. Mitchell Sembert, US Army, Morgan vonHedemann, and Emily Sembert, his sister-in-law, Candace (late Mark) Hagar, his dear friends, Edward Conklin and Gerald Townsend, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his brother, Eugene J. (late Patricia) Sembert.

Visitation will be held from 1 – 5 PM on Sunday, December 12 at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304.  Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 13 at 10 AM at St. Leo’s Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304, concluding with Military Honors.  The family kindly requests that visitors wear masks for both the visitation and the church services.  Interment in Dickersonville Cemetery, Ransomville, NY at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness in Bob’s memory.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
