CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
The Canisius golf team sits in 13th place after the first day of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, which started Sunday at the Kaluhyat Course in Verona, N.Y. The Golden Griffins posted a team score of 304 in the opening round on Sunday, but followed that with a team tally of 327 for a two-round score of 631.
Canisius junior Matt Genaway was the Griffs’ top individual performer on Sunday, and he enters the third round on Monday tied for 25th in the field. Genaway started the fall campaign by posting an even-par 72 in the first round before carding a 77 for a two-round total of 149. He is the only Canisius golfer ranked among the top-50 in the field after the first 36 holes.

Genaway’s even-par 72 to start the day’s action stands as his second even-par round in his last four collegiate outings after he shot a 72 in the first round of the 2019 MAAC Golf Championship last April. SeniorDavid Hanes posted back-to-back 79s on Sunday and is tied for 57th, while freshman Shane Broad is tied for 67th in his first college tournament after he posted a two-round score of 161, highlighted by a 75 in the opening round.
TEAM LEADERBOARD
No. 23 ranked North Carolina leads the tournament by 17 strokes over second-place and tournament host Missouri. The Tar Heels posted a team score of 553, as only three golfers had an over-par round on the day. Missouri, the eight-time defending champion at this event has a team score of 570 after two rounds.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
North Carolina’s Ryan Burnett leads the field at minus-10 after he shot 69-65. He is one stroke ahead of teammate Austin Greaser, who carded a 135 on Sunday, highlighted by a 64 in the second round.
