EDISON, N.J. – Forwards Kelsey Araujo and Annie Ibey have been selected to the Preseason All-MAAC team announced on Tuesday.

Ibey, a native of Niagara Falls, Ont., led the team and was second across the conference in both goals and points per game. Her 10 goals were the fourth most by a freshman since 2000 and her 10 goals were the most by a Purple Eagle since 2015. She led the MAAC and finished ninth in the nation with six game-winning goals.

Araujo, a native of Brandford, Ont., was second in the MAAC and led the team in shots per game (4.22) and fourth in the league in total shots (76), establishing new career highs in both categories. She also led the team with a career-best five assists, and was second to Ibey in goals with five, also a career high.

Araujo and Ibey were both named to the 2018 All-MAAC Second Team.

The Purple Eagles received 69 points to place sixth in the coaches’ poll. Head coach Peter Veltri is entering his 21st season leading the program. The Purple Eagles return 17 letterwinners from last season’s team that finished the 2018 season with double digits wins (10) and advanced to the MAAC Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2014.

The Purple Eagles kick-off their 2019 campaign hosting UMass-Lowell on August 22 at 7 p.m. and the six-team MAAC Championship begins on November 3.
