BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) netted a hat trick and Buffalo State scored three third-period goals to pull away for a 6-3 victory over visiting Cortland in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Andrew Logar (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Andrew Husted (Niagara Falls, NY/Grand Island) and Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) also scored for the Bengals.
  • Cody Symonds (Woodbridge, ON/Emily Carr), Michael Anthony Guerrera (Montreal, QC/OHA), Jon Colley (Stouffville, ON/Stouffville District) and Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) all added two assists apiece.
  • Logar opened the scoring with his second goal of the season just 4:49 into the contest, deflecting a point shot by Symonds that bounced past the Cortland goalie.
  • Cortland evened the score late in the first period.
  • Wood netted his first of the game early in the second period on the power play with a one-time blast from the point under the cross bar, but Cortland responded quickly to even the score again less than a minute later. 
  • The Red Dragons scored again just 1:24 later to take their first lead of the game.
  • Wood pulled Buffalo State back even at 3-3 midway through period and the score remained tied into the second intermission.
  • Husted forced a turnover in the Cortland zone and wristed a shot into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal just 1:33 into the third period.
  • Wood completed his hat trick deflecting another Symonds point shot home midway through the period, and then Vasjonkin tallied his first of the season on a slick breakaway just over a minute later to complete the scoring.
  • Buffalo State finished with a 27-23 advantage in shots, outshooting Cortland 21-12 over the final 40 minutes.
  • Connor Minch (Manchester, NH/Manchester Central) finished with 20 saves in the win.

FOR THE FOES

  • Mike Crowley had a goal and an assist for Cortland, and Tom Ritchie and Sean Perichak also scored.
