UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team saw four student-athletes earn All-MAC recognition on Thursday morning, as announced by the conference office. Senior forward Carissima Cutrona earned First Team honors while Gurjeena Jandu was pegged on the second team and Emily Kelly and Tess Ford earned All-Freshman team honors.
“Congratulations to our four players for their well-deserved recognition by the conference. It is a testament to their work ethic and dedication on being their very best. This team went through so much this fall, showing so much grit and these four athletes absolutely embody that trait. For Carissima to be recognized First Team by the MAC coaches is a lesson to all players about showing up every day, putting in the work, and loving every moment of being a student-athlete.”
Cutrona was able to earn a spot on the first team for the first time in her UB career despite only appearing in 11 matches after sustaining a season-ending injury. The lethal forward was having one of the best seasons in a long time for a Buffalo player as she had eight goals and eight assists for 24 points in just 11 matches. The Williamsville native finished off her final season in fifth place in scoring while leading the conference in points per game (2.18). She netted at least one point in her final 10 matches of the season while setting a career-high with eight helpers. For her career, Cutrona ranks fifth in assists (18), sixth in goals (28) and sixth in points (74).
Junior defender Gurjeena Jandu earned Second Team All-MAC honors after another strong season on the backline for the Bulls. The team captain was the catalyst for a strong UB defense as she helped the Bulls secure eight clean sheets on the season while holding opponents to 1.44 goals-against per game. Jandu has now earned All-MAC honors in each of her three seasons for the Bulls as she has proved to be one of the best defenders in the conference.
Freshman goalkeeper Emily Kelly had a strong season for the Bulls and she was rewarded with a spot on the All-Freshman team. Kelly wrapped up her first season with an 11-8 record to go along with a 1.52 goals-against average and a .759 save percentage while posting seven clean sheets. Her 11 wins ranks third in school history for single season wins by a goalkeeper and her seven shutouts ranks sixth in program history for a single season.
Tess Ford started every match on the back line for the Bulls during her freshman campaign and she was pegged as an All-Freshman team member for her strong defensive play. The steady defender was one of four Bulls to start all 19 matches as she helped her team secure eight clean sheets on the year and allowed just 28 goals against all season long.
