Canisius junior golfer Jaret Chipman shot a one-over 73 to lead the way for the Golden Griffin golf team, as the Blue and Gold played round one at the seventh annual Matthews Auto Intercollegiate event at the Links at Hiawatha in Apalachin, N.Y.
 
GRIFFS’ LINEUP
Chipman’s 73 led the way for the Griffs, as he closed out the first 18 holes of the 36-hole event tied for 20th in the field. Sophomore Michael Wells posted a score of 78 on Sunday, while senior John Dantonio and sophomoreMatt Genaway both posted scores of 79.  
 
TEAM LEADERBOARD
Canisius’ team score of 309 places the Griffs in 14th place in the team portion of the tournament after the first round. The host Binghamton Bearcats posted a score of 277, which is 12 strokes better than second-place Longwood. Two-time defending team champion St. Bonaventure is tied for third with Columbia after recording a team score of 293.
 
INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD
Binghamton’s Zachary Ottman leads the field after shooting a five-under 67 on Sunday. Four players are tied in second after shooting a three-under 69.
 
NEXT ON THE TEE
The second and final round of the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate is set to be played Monday. The Griffs will start off the tee at 10 a.m.
