The Niagara men’s soccer team (2-4-0, 0-0-0 MAAC) is heading to Saint Bonaventure, New York this weekend. The Purple Eagles are set to renew their rivalry with the Bonnies in the first Little 3 showdown of the season.

Niagara Notes

  • The Purple Eagles are coming off a split weekend punctuated by a win at VMI. The game ended 3-1 with goals from Mbongeni TshumaBorna Juracic, and Bautista Pedezert. Matt Krucko-Moeller notched two assists while Tshuma added one for a three-point day.
  • The win over the Keydets matched Niagara’s win total from one year ago. The Purple Eagles’ first win came against the Hartford Hawks. Dylan Avila scored the first goal of the game. In double overtime, Luca Pacheco was able to convert a penalty kick in the 109th minute for the win.
  • Steve Casey has tended net in every game of the season so far for the Purple Eagles, logging 558:09 minutes in goal.

 
Across The Pitch: Saint Bonaventure Bonnies (2-1-1, 0-0-0 A10)

  • St. Bonaventure opened against then-No. 6 Louisville earlier this season, falling 2-1. The game was even until the 69th minute when Geoffrey Dee scored the game-winner on a penalty kick.

  • Kosi Nwarfnso scored the winning goal in the 85th minute against the UAlbany Great Danes in last week’s game on Monday, Sept. 3rd.
  • This will be the 52nd all-time meeting between Saint Bonaventure and Niagara. The Bonnies lead the series – which dates back to 1969 – with a record of 30-16-5. Last season’s matchup ended in a draw of 1-1.
