KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team completed its fall season on Sunday morning in the final day of the 2016 MAC Invite on the campus of Western Michigan University.

The day was highlighted by junior Vidit Vaghela who won the Flight 3 title by defeating Ludovico Cestarollo of Binghamton, 6-3, 6-7, 10-5.  UB also got a pair of wins in Flight 1 as freshman Hao Sheng Koay claimed third place with a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-4 win over Maik Steiner from the host Broncos.  Junior Petr Vodak won the consolation bracket on Sunday morning by beating Omar Espinosa from Toledo, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9.  Freshman Konstantinos Tsakiris won the consolation bracket in Flight 6, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 against Erich Schuette from Northern Illinois.

The Bulls also made appearances in two other flight finals, but finished in second in both of those as Ville Fridell lost 6-4, 6-3 to Daniel Loebel of Western Michigan in Flight 4 and junior Ethan Nittolo lost 2-6, 7-6(7), 10-8 to Nick Schnobel of Western Michigan. Filip Grbic finished fourth in Flight 2 after a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Andrew Stutz from Ball State.

“This fall was a learning process for this young team and coaching staff,” said head coach Lee Nickell. “We gained some valuable experience working together, and we are hopeful we can make some mental changes these next few months to help us close out matches. This fall we have had numerous leads blown, which is understandable with a young group, but this is a very good team and if we can get over these mental hurdles it will be an exceptional spring.”
