Canisius sophomore Siobhan Quinn posted a time of 21:19.30 to finish first and win the 2016 MAAC Women’s Cross Country Championships individual crown Saturday morning at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Quinn is the first Canisius female runner to win the MAAC’s Championship race since Allison Carr in 1997, and she also earns the distinction of being the first non-Iona female to win the league’s individual championship since 2005.

Quinn’s time of 21:19.30 is the fourth-best time in MAAC history at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex, which has hosted the league’s championship event four times since 2000. Quinn’s top-finish also helped the Golden Griffins place fourth as a team, the program’s best finish in the MAAC Cross Country Championship since 2010 when the Blue and Gold finished second. Canisius junior Carlin Sullivan placed 14th in the field with her time of 22:13.11, while senior Macey Walker crossed the line in 22:49.11 to place 28th.

On the men’s side, Canisius placed second in the event, the sixth straight top-five performance for the unit. Senior Galen Snyder completed the course in 25:29.11 to place 16th in the field, while senior teammates Xavier Sauvageau and Brennan Root placed 19th and 20th, respectively. Sauvageau posted a time of 25:36.41 with Root completing the course in 25:37.36. Freshman Donovan Glavin placed 23rd overall in the race with his time of 25:42.76 en route to being named to the 2016 MAAC Cross Country All-Rookie Team.

Iona won both the men’s and women’s races as a team, with the win on the men’s side serving as the Gaels’ 26th straight league title. Canisius’ men were second with 102 points, followed by Marist (104), Manhattan (109) and Siena (141). In the women’s race, Iona won with 49 points, followed by Quinnipiac (51), Monmouth (97), Canisius (122) and Manhattan (130). Both the Canisius men’s and women’s teams finished ahead of rival Niagara, earning a total of four points in the annual Battle of the Bridge series.

Canisius will return to action Nov. 11, when the teams travel to take part in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
