AMHERST — The Niagara University men’s and women’s tennis teams each defeated the Daemen Wildcats, 8-1, on Wednesday night in the first dual match of the fall season for both teams.

The Purple Eagles women won all three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles teams of Stella Peisakhova and Sharlee Deshumuk won 8-4.  In No. 2 doubles, Shannon Wong and Ali Hutchison cruised to an 8-1 win, and the No. 3 duo of Jasmin Vargas and Sansriti Ranjan won 8-3. NU won five of the six singles matches with Peisakhova, Wong, Hutchinson, Ranjan and Deshmukh all winning in straight sets.

On the men’s side, Niagara took two of three doubles matches. The No. 1 duo of Josh Wilson and Felipe Fuentes continued their strong recent form with an 8-3 win over Justin Milner and Mark Veitengruber. In No. 2 doubles, Francis Nadeau and Taylan Ozdemir defeated Gonzalez Villegas and John LeMar, 8-2. The Purple Eagles swept all six singles matches with Fuentes, Ozdemir, Nadeau, Wilson, Brent Boleslav and Chris Grossi picking up wins.

Both teams will participate in the USTA/ITA Northeast Regionals from Oct. 20-25.
