The Canisius College women’s soccer team opens MAAC play on Saturday when the Golden Griffins travel to play at Fairfield. Canisius is coming off a 3-0 loss at cross-town rival Buffalo Sept. 9.

The Griffs’ roster this season features 12 newcomers, and those new faces have helped contribute to the team’s offensive output so far. Four of Canisius’ six goals this season have come from first-year players with the program, led by freshman Gretta Dry, who has a team-high two goals to go along with two assists. Her six points so far this year ranks her tied for seventh in the MAAC. Junior forward Maddie Good leads the team and is tied for third in the league with her three assists.

The Griffs are 10-13-1 all-time in the first MAAC game of the season. Canisius has opened MAAC play against Fairfield one time previously, in 2007. The Stags recorded a 2-1 win in that game. The Griffs and Stags are meeting for the 26th time in series history. Fairfield leads the all-time series 20-4-1. Last season, the Stags posted a 4-1 win over the Griffs in Buffalo. Canisius’ lone goal came from Melanie Linsmair. That was the first goal of Linsmair’s career.

Fairfield is 1-7-0 this season. The Stags are coming off a 3-0 loss to Syracuse at home Sept. 11.
