Duquesne sophomore Austin Stout scored the game-winning goal in the 100th minute to help lift the host Dukes to a 1-0 overtime victory over Canisius Sunday afternoon in the last game of the 2016 Duquesne Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa. The win moves Duquesne to 3-2-0 on the year, while the Golden Griffins fell to 2-4-0.

Canisius had its own scoring chance in overtime when junior Mathew Santos pushed one just wide of the post from six-yards out in the 97th minute. Moments later, Stout took a cross from the right side where he was able to beat Canisius goalkeeper Marco Triellato for his first goal of the season. The game-winning goal came with just five seconds left to play in the first overtime session.

Duquesne finished the game with a 13-12 advantage in shots, however, the Griffs held a 7-1 shot advantage through the game’s first 45 minutes of play. One of Blair’s shots came in the game’s 64th minute as the Frome, Jamaica native broke free and had a 1-on-1 chance against Duquesne goalkeeper Evan Kozlowski, but Blair’s shot banged off the left goal post, keeping the game scoreless.

Kozlowski made four stops in the win for the Dukes and was named the Duquesne Invitational MVP after earning two victories in a three-day strectch. Trivellato was credited with five stops in the loss. Santos, senior Francesco Strangio and senior Thomas Teupen were also honored to the Duquesne Invitational All-Tournament Team as well. Head Coach Dermot McGrane said, “It is always tough to lose in overtime, but I am proud of the way our boys played this afternoon. We have to keep the faith that if we keep playing at a high standard, the results will start falling our way.”

Canisius returns home Friday when the Blue and Gold plays host to St. Bonaventure. Game time is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
