Fishing in Western New York
Last updated March 22, 2009
There are endless opportunities for fishing here in Western New York. All four
seasons offer unique sportfishing activities. The region has been
blessed with many brooks, creeks, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes and extensive access to
the region surrounding, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario to test your angling skills. They offer a wide
variety of fish species to pursue from both boat and shore, from the mighty King
Salmon, Coho Salmon and Atlantic Salmon strains of Salmonids to, Rainbow/Steelhead
Trout, Brown Trout and Lake Trout in Lake Ontario, the lower Niagara river and
it's many tributaries, to the tasty Walleye or "Yellow Pike" and the Largemouth Bass. The Smallmouth Bass on Lake Erie is second to none in quantity and quality.
The smallmouth fishery is so extensive it draws a national bass fishing tournament to
Lake Erie and the Buffalo area each summer.
Add Muskie and pike on the mighty Upper Niagara River and Chautauqua Lake to the
mix, and an assortment of the plentiful and the numerous and ever cooperative panfish
species found everywhere. Many local tournaments are held each year, offerings
prizes from small cash purses to brand spankin' new boats. The choices are
difficult and many if you want a chartered or guided trip.
Due to the increasing number and variety of fishing web sites we have found and
are currently being posted online,
this section has been broken down into several pages found below. If you have a link to the fishing page, it will remain valid
as we have set up links on that page to lead to the new sections.
