PRESS RELEASE

LOCKPORT — The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of Correction Officer Alexandra Matalavage on five (5) counts of Tampering with Public Records in the first degree, a Class D Felony.

Correction Officer Matalavage, age 52, joined the Sheriff’s Office in 2008 as a Correction Officer. The arrest stems from an investigation into incidents which occurred at the Niagara County Correctional Facility while Officer Matalavage was on duty. The incidents came to light after reviews of inmate supervisory rounds were conducted. Officer Matalavage was arraigned before Town of Lockport Justice Marble and she was released on her own recognizance. She is set to return to Town of Lockport Court on October 1, 2019 at 9:00am.

Officer Matalavage has been placed on suspension pending a departmental hearing. Undersheriff Filicetti stated that due to the on-going criminal investigation and departmental charges, no further information will be released at this time.
