UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS


BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo softball team saw a program record four student-athletes named to the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC team, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Ally Power earned the recognition for the second straight season while Alissa KarjelTaylor Scott and Ufuoma Ogagan each earn the honor for the first time in their UB career. 
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
In all, a total of 91 student-athletes were honored with this award while UB placed four players on the squad, breaking the old program record of three recipients in 2016.
Junior pitcher Ally Power earned the recognition for the second straight season for the Bulls after putting together a strong campaign in the circle for UB in Mike Roberts’ first season at the helm of the program. A political science major with a 3.371 GPA, Power finished off her career-best season going 13-17 in the circle while notching 15 complete games and two shutouts as she recorded the most wins in a season by a Buffalo pitcher since 2014. The Colorado native held a 4.53 ERA while striking out a career-best 111 batters across 154.2 innings of work. She put together her best outing of her career on March 23 against Eastern Michigan as she was able to record a no-hitter as she struck out five batters and didn’t allow a hit across five scoreless innings against the Eagles, the first UB no-no since Tori Speckman in 2014.
A management major with a 3.527 GPA, Karjel closed out her junior campaign playing in all 47 games while earning 46 starts in the infield, mostly at shortstop. The Lancaster, NY native finished off the season batting .195 with three home runs, 10 RBI and 13 runs scored while also notching 18 walks. She also finished off the season ranking second on the squad with 48 assists from her shortstop position.
Senior Taylor Scott, a biological sciences major with a 3.229 GPA, was named to the squad for the first time this season after posting a career year at the plate for UB. The Maryland native appeared in a career-best 36 games while earning 28 starts for the Bulls while batting .108 with 11 runs scored, a home run and four RBI. The senior finished off her career with a .957 fielding percentage, highest of her career, which ranked third on the team.
A psychology major with a 3.200 GPA, Ogagan had her best offensive season for the Bulls as she was able to play in 44 games and start 40 in the outfield. The speedy Ogagan finished off her sophomore campaign with a .258 batting average to go along with two home runs, 13 RBI and 18 runs scored while owning a .412 slugging percentage. The sophomore also went 6-for-8 on stolen base attempts while recording 57 putouts in the outfield for UB.
