Sheila Marie Sorge, of Wheatfield, a special education teacher, died Saturday in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a short illness. She was 51.
Born in Buffalo, the former Sheila Millich was a 1984 graduate of Orchard Park High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Niagara University and completed a master’s degree in special education at Buffalo State College.
She was a teacher in the West Valley Central School District for several years, then taught elementary grades in the Santa Cruz Valley Unified School District in Rio Rico, Ariz., after she was married.
Mrs. Sorge returned to Western New York with her family in 2007 and was a full-time substitute special education teacher in North Tonawanda Middle School and High School for two years, then taught for two years at Frontier Central High School and one year at Frontier Middle School. Earlier this year she began teaching at Gateway Longview in Williamsville.
She also taught first grade religious education classes at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in the Town of Tonawanda.
Survivors include her husband of 14 years, Andrew; a daughter, Alexandria; two sons, Daniel and James; her father, Robert “Butch” Millich; her mother, Theresa A. Sullivan; two brothers, Robert D. Millich Jr. and Michael Millich; and a sister, Tammy Evans.
