“Who is this Carl of which you speak?”

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, under pressure to respond to Carl Paladino’s “2017 Wishlist” published in ShartVoice, (the one where Carl wishes death on President Obama and wants the First Lady to “return to being a male” and live in a gorilla cave) has finally held a press conference to address the issue.  Said the mayor:

It has come to my attention that a local citizen has been charged with making hateful, ugly, racist statements in a local freebie paper that has gone down the toilet lately.  Apparently this person is a wealthy businessman here, and may even serve on the Buffalo Public School Board.

I want to say that I have never before heard of Carl Paladino, nor, to the best of my knowledge, ever met or spoke with him during my tenure as State Senator, Buffalo Common Council member, and as mayor of our fair city.

At this time, I do not wish to express any opinion on the question of this man’s alleged statements, as I do not have enough information at hand to condemn or condone words that may have been written by a man who may or may not even exist.

I have tasked my staff with gathering information regarding the existence of this man, the validity of claims against him, and whether or not it is politically beneficial of me to weigh in on the appropriateness of any statements he may or may not have made.

Until, such time, let me again state: never heard of him.

At that point, a rooster was heard crowing in the distance.
