BUFFALO — Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced the first public meeting as part of the process to help determine the location of the new Amtrak Station. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Buffalo Common Council Chamber, located on the 13th Floor of Buffalo City Hall.
“We are pleased that there is so much community interest in the train station selection project and look forward to hearing testimony from residents on potential sites across the City of Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown.
When Mayor Brown announced the names of the Committee Members, he also informed the community that the public meeting process would begin almost immediately, and it has with the kickoff of the first public meeting on Thursday.
The committee will work in tandem with NYSDOT, which has selected WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff to do the technical work associated with the site selection process. The Stakeholder Committee is comprised of the following leaders: Governor Andrew Cuomo; Mayor Byron Brown; Congressman Brian Higgins; Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz; Senator Tim Kennedy; Assembly Member Crystal Peoples-Stokes; Commissioner Matt Driscoll, NYS Department of Transportation; President and CEO Howard Zemsky, Empire State Development; Transit Director Tom George, Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority; Commissioner Steve Stepniak, City of Buffalo Department of Public Works; Executive Director Brendan Mehaffy, City of Buffalo Office of Strategic Planning; Bill Hollister, Senior Manager of Govt. Affairs NE, Amtrak; Maurice O’Connell, Vice President of State Government and Community Affairs, CSX; Eugene Berardi, Jr., President and CEO of Trailways; Douglas Funke, President of Citizens for Regional Transit; Luis Rodriguez, Jr., Rodriguez Construction Group; and Dr. Constance Moss, Retired Asst. Supt. Buffalo Public Schools.
Those who would like to present their ideas at the first public meeting on Thursday must complete and return a reply form as soon as possible. The form can be found on the City of Buffalo Website. It is important that the reply form be fully completed and returned so that persons may be confirmed for a time slot and/or notified in the event of emergency postponement or cancellation.
Twenty copies of any presentation should be submitted at the meeting registration desk. The Committee would appreciate advance receipt of prepared statements. Presentations may also be submitted online for review by the committee at: BuffaloRail@City-Buffalo.com. You are not required to appear before the committee for your submission to be acknowledged and reviewed.
