Canisius freshmen Elizabeth Ash and Gretta Dry each scored their first career goal and fellow freshman Alana Rossi earned her first collegiate shutout in net as the Golden Griffins defeated Robert Morris 3-0 this afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

The win, Canisius’ first of the season, moves the Blue and Gold to 1-3-0 on the year, while the Colonials slipped to 0-4-0 with the loss.

Ash put the Griffs on the scoreboard first in the game’s 12th minute as she took a pass from junior teammate Maddie Good and fired a 20-yard strike into the upper left corner of the goal. Canisius’ Callie Good was also credited with an assist on the play, the fourth career assist for the senior defender.

Canisius took a 2-0 lead in the 27th minute on Fry’s first collegiate tally after she knocked in a rebound shot from five-yards out. Ash picked up an assist on that play as well. The Griffs capped the scoring in the 49th minute after senior Sabrina Fitzgerald beat Robert Morris goalkeeper Makenzie Shearson from eight-yards out. Dry set up the team’s third goal after she sent a ball through the box to Fitzgerald, who was able to redirect the pass into the back of the net.

Rossi made three saves in the win for Canisius en route to her first career shutout. Shearson made four stops for the Colonials, and Robert Morris was also credited with a team-save just before Dry was able to settle the loose ball in the box and score for the Griffs’ second marker of the contest.

Canisius will start a four-game road swing on Friday when the team plays at long-time rival St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m.
