RALEIGH, N.C. — Having lost a first-period lead and trailing by one with less than four minutes to play, the Buffalo Sabres scored a pair of third-period goals to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 Tuesday night.

Buffalo took the lead first at 12:22 of the first period. Carlo Colaiacovo’s first goal of the season was assisted by Mark Pysyk and Marcus Foligno.

In the second period, Chris Terry tied it for the Hurricanes at 12:10, assisted by Noah Hanifin and Riley Nash.

Joakin Nordstrom put Carolina in the lead at 13:40 of the third period. Jordan Staal assisted. Then at 16:11, Evander Kane tied it for the Sabres with his 20th goal of the season. Ryan O’Reilly assisted, as did Sam Reinhart. Sixty seconds later, Johan Larsson scored for Buffalo, giving the Sabres the 3-2 lead they would carry to the end of the game. Brian Gionta assisted for Buffalo.

The Sabres next play Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Winnipeg Jets come to First Niagara Center.
